We have hundreds of small (half dollar size) holes in the yard that something is digging--any idea what they are or what we can do about it? The holes are about 3" - 4" deep.
. . . and our answer.
These holes are probably from skunks or something else digging for grubs in the lawn. You may want to put down some type of grub control on your lawn. Bayer Advanced makes two great products but you need to read the label directions for proper times and methods of application. There are certain times of the year when the grubs are young that they are easiest to control.
Here is a useful link from our tips page.
Bayer Advanced Season Long Grub Control and Bonide Annual Grub Beater contain Merit (Imidacloprid) which helps in killing white grubs in the lawn. These products can be applied one time from May through mid-August before the eggs hatch.
Another product is Bayer Advanced 24 Hour Grub Killer Plus containing the active ingredient trichlorfon (Dylox). Some sources report that control of white grubs in lawns is most effective when applied July through September when the grubs are actively feeding but still small.
Always follow the label directions when applying any pesticide.
